Thomas Casadevall and Marianne Guffanti, of the U.S. Geological Survey, met on June 19 with Ambassador Wayne at the U.S. embassy. The expert geologists and vulcanologists traveled to Argentina with the purpose to assist the local aviation, meteorologists and tourism officials, both in Buenos Aires and Bariloche, on the problems posed by volcanic ashes in aviation and its serious effects on the airline and tourism industries.
