AMBASSADOR WAYNE VISITS FUNDACION COR
November 30, 2007
On the eve of International AIDS Day, Ambassador Wayne visited Fundación Cor in San Isidro today. The Foundation’s mission is to improve the quality of life of children who suffer from HIV and whose parents have died or are unable to care for them because they too have the disease. During the visit, the Ambassador donated a set of classic American books, a clothesdryer, and educational materials. Accompanying the Ambassador was Dr. Peter Leone, Associate Professor of Medicine and Epidemiology at North Carolina University and Head of the North Carolina State Department of Sexually Transmitted Diseases. Dr. Leone is in Argentina on a lecture tour sponsored by Fundación Huesped and the U.S. Embassy. Also present during the Ambassador´s visit to San Isidro were Mayor Gustavo Posse and health officials from the municipality. Fundacion Cor was established in 1993 and currently houses 28 kids aged 2-20, ninety eight percent of whom are HIV-AIDS carriers.
