FIRST LADY LAURA BUSH HELPS CELEBRATE FULBRIGHT'S 50TH ANNIVERSARY IN ARGENTINA
June 23, 2006

The Fulbright Program in Argentina celebrated its 50th anniversary in style on June 23, with a gala reception at Ambassador Gutierrez' Residence, the highlight of which was a video greeting by Laura Bush prepared especially for the occasion by the White House. The gala was hosted by Amb. Gutierrez and attended by over 300 guests, including Fulbright grantees past and present, representatives of the Government of Argentina, and the Fulbright Program chief for Latin America in the Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. The event also included a musical presentation by ex-Fulbrighters and an awards ceremony for lifelong commitment to the highest ideals of the Fulbright Program. In the last 50 years, over 4500 Argentines and Americans have participated in Argentina's Fulbright Program. In the last ten years alone, the USG has spent over 16 million dollars on these scholarships.
