Former U.S. Ambassadors to Argentina

Ambassador Wayne's Speech

AMBASSADOR’S REMARKS AT THE FRICK COLLECTION DIRECTORS RECEPTION
March 21, 2007

Thank you for coming here this afternoon, it’s a pleasure for me to welcome you.

This week’s visit of the trustees of the Frick Collection is an outgrowth of last year’s visit to Argentina by Curator Anne Poulet when she participated in a wonderful seminar for museum curators.

The Frick Collection is one of the premier cultural institutions of the United States and it is entirely appropriate that its trustees visit one of the premier cultural cities of the world.

We are so pleased that her visit led to a larger visit and I do hope that your time here will result in an even deeper relationship among the wonderful cultural institutions of our countries.

Argentines and Americans alike are justly proud of their contributions to world culture.  We have much to offer each other in this area, and we should take every opportunity to foster and celebrate cultural exchanges between our two peoples.

That is why we support a wide range of arts programs such as the upcoming performance by a multiple-grammy award-winning banjo player, photography exhibits, cultural preservation programs, and even concerts by cowboy musicians.

This Residence and its gardens are themselves examples of the ongoing exchanges between our countries, as Ambassador Bliss, who purchased this  building for the US government, and his wife built Dunbarton Oaks in Washington, D.C.

I encourage you to seek out the best of what Argentina has to offer during your stay and I do hope that you enjoy your visit and make it merely one of many.  Thank you.
