THE U.S. EMBASSY RETURNS TO THE BUENOS AIRES BOOK FAIR
May 7, 2007
For the first time in 15 years, the U.S. Embassy sponsored a stand at the Buenos Aires International Book Fair, South America’s largest, which attracts annually more than 1.2 million visitors. The return was welcomed by Book Fair organizers as well as the public. The Embassy stand, co-sponsored by American companies doing business in Argentina, included exhibits of children´s books by American authors in English and Spanish, books on America’s scenic beauty, video displays, and computers for surfing the Embassy and other US government websites. The Embassy distributed over 30,000 publications on US history, geography, and US study opportunities and hosted several cultural events, including a performance by the Alejandro Aviles Latin Jazz Quartet, a lecture by famed mystery novelist Scott Turow, and a meeting with three American writers living in Argentina. The Embassy also participated in the special program organized by the Fair for popular libraries, by distributing collections of children´s books to ten libraries.
