AMBASSADOR WAYNE HIGHLIGHTS ANTI-DRUG COOPERATION AND EDUCATIONAL EXCHANGE IN SALTA
December 1, 2006
Ambassador Wayne on December 1 visited Salta, where he highlighted excellent bilateral cooperation in counter-narcotics and announced several new educational programs sponsored by the Embassy.
The Ambassador and Salta Governor Juan Carlos Romero presided over a ceremony to deliver six drug-sniffing dogs trained by the Northern Border Task Force (NBTF), a joint effort by the DEA and Argentine law enforcement authorities.
Ambassador Wayne also visited ISICANA, the local binational center, where he announced that one of the high-school students selected nationwide as part of the new Youth Ambassadors program is a resident of Salta. Andrea Rodríguez will join four other Argentine public school students with outstanding academic records to spend two weeks in the United States in January. The young ambassadors will meet with USG officials in Washington, stay with a host family in another U.S. state, and visit local schools.
The Ambassador also announced the Sarmiento-Mann scholarship program to fund English study courses at local BNCs for children whose families are unable to afford them.
