Ambassador Russell and his delegation met with Secretary of Communications Lisandro Salas and his staff to review the two nations' positions ahead of the World Radiocommunication Conference that will take place in Geneva beginning in October 2007. The WRC is convened every three to four years under the auspices of the United Nation’s International Telecommunication Union (ITU) to review and revise the international treaty governing the use of the radio-frequency spectrum and satellite orbits.
While in Argentina, Ambassador Russell and his delegation also met with Engineer Agueda Menvielle, National Director for International Cooperation, Secretary of Science, Technology and Productive Innovation; Dr. Lino Barañao, President, National Agency for the Promotion of Science, Technology and Innovation; and Dr. Jorge Tezon, Manager for Science and Technology Development, CONICET National Research Council. The two sides discussed a wide range of current developments in science and technology and reviewed the excellent collaborative relationship our two nations enjoy in these areas.
Ambassador Russell also held meetings with the American Chamber of Commerce’s Subcommittee on Telecommunications.
