Ambassador Martinez

On April 19, Ambassador Vilma Martinez hosted a reception in honor of the launch of  Enseñá por Argentina, a new effort to encourage top university graduates to go into the teaching profession. The program is modeled on Teach for America, and NGO in the United States that has placed more than fifteen thousand university graduates in teaching positions in public schools in disadvantaged regions of the United States.  The reception was planned to honor Wendy Kopp, founder of Teach for America. However, the problem of volcanic ash caused the cancellation of her flight from Europe and prevented her from arriving in Argentina. Oscar Ghillione, executive director of Enseñá por Argentina spoke in her place, describing the goals of the organization.
“We are gathered to honor a group of Argentine professionals working to bring the Teach for America and Teach for All model to Argentina. The model has been a great success in the United States and has many possibilities of becoming a reality in Argentina”.
“Enseñá por Argentina is currently recruiting outstanding university graduates who will be trained in teaching methodology and then placed in teaching positions in schools in disadvantaged areas of Argentina. Following the model of Teach for America and Teach for All, the Argentine chapter Enseñá por Argentina seeks to marshal the energy of future leaders to provide the best possible educational opportunities for all children, regardless of their family’s socioeconomic status”. said the Ambassador.
