SEMINAR FOR ALUMNI IN THE ENGLISH TEACHING FIELD
February 27-28, 2009
The Embassy and ECA’s Alumni Office hosted the first Alumni Seminar on English Teaching and Technology, at ICANA (Buenos Aires Binational Center). Approximately 50 alumni attended the seminar –a follow-up to the Teacher Ambassador Program and International Visitor Programs for English Language Teachers from Argentina- actively participated in the different sessions conducted by Professor Deanne Hochstein, Department of Linguistics, University of Oregon and Professor Joelle Uzarski, Regional English Language Officer. The enthusiastic audiences praised the level of the presentations that focused on a variety of topics such as effective e-course design to ensure academic engagement; the best use of Webtools for language development; the meaning and scope of Web 2.0 and the benefits and opportunities of the State Alumni Database
Some of the Alumni participants contributed with their presentations on the topic and shared their experiences and practical ideas to be implemented in the different classroom settings. Most of the alumni came from the interior of Argentina and enjoyed the opportunity to get together with their travel group members; to meet other teachers from Argentina and to create a real networking of English Language Teachers with the same background and interests in common.
Participants said the seminar was an encouraging experience to start the academic year. The free materials on English Language Teaching along with the webbliograhy prepared by the Embassy IRC were highly appreciated.
