AMBASSADOR WAYNE ATTENDS "TOWARD A SUSTAINABLE ENERGY FUTURE" WORKSHOP

Ambassador Wayne attended the opening of the IANAS Workshop "Toward a sustainable energy future", held on October 30 at the Centro Argentino de Ingenieros in Buenos Aires. The workshop was sponsored by the InterAmerican Network of Academies of Science (IANAS), the Ministry of Science and technology, and the National Academy of Exact, Physical and Natural Sciences (ANCEFN). Science and Technology Minister Lino Baranao opened the event.
"I was impressed by the way that the Academies of Science of the hemisphere are actively working tegether to provide policy options and recommendations on such vital topics as sustainable energy." -- highlighted Ambassador Wayne.
The workshop's goals were three fold. First, it was to discuss policy priorities for sustainable energy and environmental protection, especially for efficiency in the use of existing resources, and for the development of new sources of energy. Secondly, the workshop was considering how decision-makers might adopt a step-by-step program of near and long-term measures to implement the energy policy. Finally, the discussion turned to integration and synergy of local actions, and coordination among the IANAS member academies.
