AMBASSADOR WAYNE MAKES A DONATION IN QUILMES
August 6, 2007
Ambassador Wayne made a donation to the foster home “Hogar Evangelina” in the city of Quilmes on Monday August 6.
This home for children from troubled families run by the Salvation Army provides shelter to more than 20 children aged between 6 and 14 Sundays thru Fridays. The kids go to a nearby public school during the morning and practice sports and engage in other cultural activities in the afternoon. “Hogar Evangelina” has given shelter to kids since 1930.
The Ambassador donated three computers with a one-year Internet connection, a printer, a collection of books, school supplies, and a washing machine. After touring the home, the Ambassador spoke with the kids living there.
“These books and computers will help you explore new horizons and let you share your ideas and experiences with people from all over the world.” said the Ambassador and added: “I hope one day a student from Evangelina can use what he or she learns in your new computer lab to win one of our English-learning scholarships or to participate in one of our youth exchange programs.”
The donation made by Ambassador Wayne reaffirms the commitment by the U.S. Embassy to invest in Argentina’s youth, and to support “Hogar Evangelina” and their work. The Ambassador noted that last year a group of U.S. Embassy marines carried out community work at the home by digging holes for a new fence around the facility.
