THE "NEW YORK DOLLS” ROCK BAND IN Bs As WITH U.S. EMBASSY CHARGE D’AFFAIRES THOMAS KELLY
The legendary New York Dolls took time from their tour in support of their upcoming release "Cause I Sez So" to meet with Argentine music students from the non-profit organization Defensores del Chaco. The students had the pleasure of hearing the Dolls perform such classics as "Personality Crisis", "Looking for a Kiss" and "Trash" to a packed house at El Teatro Flores in Buenos Aires on April 19th, 2009.
"The New York Dolls, one of the most influential rock bands in the United States, put on a tremendous show last night in Buenos Aires. Despite their hard work on stage, they gave generously of their time afterwards to speak to a group of young Argentine musicians who accompanied us to hear their music,” said U.S. Embassy Charge d’Affaires Thomas Kelly
After the show, members of the Dolls met with the young Argentine musicians and offered much-appreciated words of encouragement to them. Charge d'Affaires Thomas Kelly welcomed the band members to Argentina and discussed Argentina's vibrant music scene with them.
The New York Dolls are one of the most influential bands of the 1970s glam rock scene. The band reunited in 2004 when former Smiths vocalist Morrissey, who was once the president of a British New York Dolls fan club, invited the surviving members of the New York Dolls to perform at a music festival in the United Kingdom.
The current lineup consists of original members David Johansen (vocals) and Sylvain Sylvain (guitar) plus Steve Conte (guitar), Brian Delaney (drums), and Sami Yaffa (bass).
