AMBASSADOR WAYNE AND A CONGRESSIONAL DELEGATION HEADED BY REPRESENTATIVE MEEKS MEET WITH MINISTER TAIANA
December 18, 2008

Ambassador Wayne accompanied a congressional delegation led by Representative Gregory Meeks, Democrat of New York, to a meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Relations with Minister Jorge Taiana on December 18.  Also in the delegation were Representative Ruben Hinojosa, Democrat of Texas, and Representative Paul Ryan, Republican of Wisconsin. The congressmen are working to prepare the agenda for the new Congress of the United States which will be sworn in on January 6.  Minister Taiana, having just returned from the summit meetings of Mercosur, UNASUR, the Latin America and the Caribbean, and the Rio Group, engaged with the congressmen on a range of global and regional issues.

"Our visitors are three of the most important legislators in the U.S. Congress.  Foreign Minister Taiana gave them a cogent presentation of Argentina's views on world affairs, which our visitors appreciated greatly," said Ambassador Wayne after the meeting.
