AMBASSADOR WAYNE HOSTS MEETING WITH ARGENTINES WHO ATTENDED THE WHITE HOUSE CONFERENCE ON THE AMERICAS

Ambassador Wayne met at the US Embassy July 20 with 9 of the 11 Argentines who attended the White House Conference on the Americas held on July 9 to advance the cause of social justice in the Americas.

The conference brought together 250 representatives from the private sector, approximately 150 regional-based organizations and 100 US-based groups, including the following Argentine participants: Lucrecia Lacroze, President, CONCIENCIA; Nicolas Ducote, Executive Director, CIPPEC; Rafael Velasquez, Executive Secretary, Pro Humanae Vitae Foundation ; Silvina Vatnik, Director, CEF (Center for Financial Stability); Laura Alonso, Poder Ciudadano; Maria Ines Marchegiani de Ucae, President, LALCEC; Silvia Bonicatto, President, Fundonar Foundation; Norma Gonzalez, Executive Director, Fulbright Comission;  and Moira Rubio, Co-director, PH-15 Foundation.

Conference hosts President Bush and his wife Laura were accompanied by Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Secretary of Commerce Carlos Gutiérrez, Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson, Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings and Secretary of Health and Human Services Mike Leavitt. 

Ambassador Wayne underscored during the conversation that the main purpose of the White House Conference on the Americas was to highlight U.S. regional engagement and discuss more effective ways to deliver aid and strengthen civil society to help people across the region enjoy the benefits of democracy in every-day life.
