AMBASSADOR WAYNE BIDS FAREWELL TO THE PRESIDENT OF THE SENATE, JULIO CÉSAR COBOS
June 1, 2009
As part of a series of meetings to bid farewell to authorities of the Executive and Judicial Branches, Ambassador Wayne met on June 1st with the President of the Senate, Julio César Cobos, as he prepares to leave the country. The Embassy has also requested a meeting with the Speaker of the House of Deputies.
"I take from Argentina pleasant memories of a warm and solidary people, of a country that works to consolidate its democracy and strength as a key reference in South America,” said Ambassador Wayne.
Ambassador Wayne reviewed the countless activities carried out in Argentina during his 3-year tenure as U.S. Ambassador to Argentina. Visiting 16 provinces besides the province of Buenos Aires and its capital district enabled the Ambassador to know more about the culture and traditions of numerous towns and cities around the country. The Ambassador and the President of the Senate talked about the importance of education and values for the good performance of a democracy and also shared views and ideas on the global economic crisis.
Ambassador Wayne highlighted the importance of Congressional exchanges and legislative support to confront the major threats of global terrorism, drugs and trafficking in persons, among other heinous crimes being faced by our peoples and underscored the need for combined action to eradicate these scourges. The President of the Senate thanked the Ambassador for the work done during these years and said he was confident that both governments will continue to deepen and enhance joint action for the benefit of U.S. and Argentine peoples.
