AMBASSADOR WAYNE REMARKS AT “WORLD CONGRESS ON CIVIC EDUCATION” RECEPTION
May 18, 2007
Good evening Judge Wood, Assistant Deputy Secretary Price, Charles Quigley and Richard Nuccio, Executive Director and Director of the Center for Civic Education, Lucrezia LaCroze of Conciencia, ladies and gentlemen.
It’s a pleasure for me to welcome you here to this beautiful Residence. As I mentioned to you in my remarks yesterday, I believe you are all doing the sometimes difficult but truly important, and I’m sure, rewarding work of building stronger democracies around the world. I applaud your efforts and congratulate you on your commitment.
You are now mid-way through your conference in Buenos Aires, and I’m sure that the ideas and experiences you are sharing over these several days will produce valuable concrete results when you return home.
I look forward to hearing from you to learn about the progress you are making in your individual countries and the obstacles that you still face. Some of your challenges are unique to your own countries, but others are common problems that we all must work to solve.
Please allow me to take this opportunity to thank the Center for Civic Education and Conciencia for organizing the conference and working with us to host this reception. Speaking of which, I would be remiss if I did not thank Bodega Llorente Hermanos for providing the wine this evening.
With that, I like to turn the floor over to Mr. Richard Nuccio of the Center for Civic Education, who has a few words that he’d like to say.
