AMBASSADOR MEETS REPRESENTATIVES OF TUCUMAN CITRUS INDUSTRY
September 16, 2008

Ambassador Wayne met with members of the Tucuman Citrus Association on September 16 to discuss lemon exports from Argentina to the United States. The members of the delegation expressed their strong interest in exporting their fruit to the United States and explained the economic benefit those sales could have for Tucuman. The Ambassador explained that, in April 2008, USDA prepared a risk management analysis identifying measures that will mitigate the pest risks associated with the import of lemons from Argentina.  A proposed rule to allow the import of Argentine lemons to the United States is currently being prepared, and the Ambassador emphasized that the US is seeking to address this issue on a scientific basis.

Members of the delegation included Roberto Sanchez Loria, President, Tucuman Citrus Association (ATC); Lucas Fornaciari, General Manager, Citromax; Daniel Lucci, Director, Citrusville; Adolfo Storni, Commercial Manager, SA San Miguel; Alvaro Bulacio, President, Argenti Lemon SA; Marcos Dupont, Director, Argenti Lemon SA ; Fernando Illing, Technical Manager, AFINOA; Bartolome Del Bono, Manager, ATC; Jose Carbonell, Manager, Frutas Ctricas SRL.
