On the Eve of International Volunteers Day, nine participants of the Youth Ambassador Program (2009) gathered on December 4 in Puerto Tirol, Chaco, to launch a project designed by them and aimed at the preservation and promotion of the Qom Indigenous culture.
The Project which focuses in the organization of Qom craft training workshops will take place in the town’s soup kitchen "La Ponaxaqui Qompi” during the school period next year. At the inaugural event, youth ambassadors from nine provinces made a donation of educational materials and sport equipment, organized musical activities and reading workshops; as well as showed native crafts and dances.
The Youth Ambassadors’ project is supported by the Puerto Tirol Mayor, Hugo Abel Sager, and the Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy.
About the Youth Ambassador Program
The Youth Ambassador program is an initiative of the U.S. Embassy with the cooperation of the Argentine Fulbright Commission and Partners of the Americas of the United States, which is designed to send public high-school students to the United States for three weeks, with the purpose of learning about the U.S. society and culture and sharing the Argentine culture with Americans. Through this exchange program, Youth Ambassadors strengthen friendship ties, improve their English and get new ideas on community service.
