President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner and Ambassador Vilma Martinez met on November 13 to discuss shared values and US-Argentina bilateral cooperation.  Specifically, Ambassador Martinez emphasized Argentina’s leadership role in the initiatives to combat nuclear proliferation and climate change, two global threats that are at the top of President Obama’s international agenda.

“It was a pleasure and an honor to have the opportunity to meet with President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner.  We have discussed the excellent cooperation between our countries and how we can continue to strengthen our relationship,” commented Ambassador Martinez after the meeting.

They also spoke about ways to increase bilateral commerce and investment. The Ambassador reiterated the U.S. support for Argentina’s efforts to normalize its relationship with the IMF and the creditors from the Paris Club.

“Argentina plays an important role in the many global questions that are on the top of the Obama Administration’s list of priorities,” said Ambassador Martinez. “Be it narco-trafficking, terrorism, poverty, human trafficking, or other common threats, we know that we can count on the unconditional collaboration and professional support of Argentina. I hope that during my term as Ambassador to this great country, we can create a deeper association to help create a safer and more peaceful world as well as a strong multilateral system.”
