AMBASSADOR WAYNE ATTENDS THE INAUGURATION OF THE “CEI SAN IGNACIO” NEW SCHOOL BUILDING
September 9, 2008

Ambassador Wayne attended the inauguration of the new school building “CEI San Ignacio” in Junin de los Andes, Neuquen Province, on September 9.  Also present at the event was Neuquen Governor Jorge Sapag; Mr. Wes Lohec, Chevron’s Managing Director for Latin America Exploration and Production; San Ignacio students and teachers, Junín residents, local authorities, and Fundación Cruzada Patagonica employees.

“This is a wonderful day for San Ignacio students, and I applaud the efforts of Chevron Argentina, Fundación Cruzada Patagonica, the provincial government, and the many other sponsors and volunteers in restoring this school.  What a beautiful building and a great environment in which to learn!  I was very pleased to discover that San Ignacio has two strong ties with the United States.  First, they have a vibrant exchange program with the Foundation for Community Vitality in the state of Montana.  Second, San Ignacio participates in the GLOBE program, which was initiated in the United States to study about the earth's environment.  San Ignacio has twice won international awards for its GLOBE work, indicating a high level of academic achievement.”

Chevron Argentina and Argentine NGO Fundación Cruzada Patagonica teamed up to lead this reconstruction effort to re-build this school that was destroyed by a fire in August 2007.  This new school building has many new safety and construction standards, including smoke detectors and automated sprinklers in every room.  All the construction work on the new school was performed by regional companies.
