AMBASSADOR WAYNE ADDRESSES BUSINESSMEN ON U.S. ECONOMIC PRIORITIES

Ambassador Wayne outlined U.S. international economic priorities on March 15 in a luncheon speech organized by the Consejo Interamericano de Comercio y Producción (CICyP). The Ambassador discussed the U.S. economy’s role in fostering trade and investment around the world and noted that a successful completion of the Doha Round is the U.S.’ top trade priority. He singled out transparency as the best available tool for governments to woo investors and commented on the toll corruption can exact, saying, “Corruption and bribery are a scourge that prevents many countries from raising the standards of living and ensuring a dignified life for all peoples.” The Ambassador also described the range and extent of U.S. foreign assistance to the audience of more than 200 businessmen, diplomats and policy makers.
