AMBASSADOR WAYNE AND MARÍA EUGENIA ESTENSSORO OPEN COMPUTER CENTER
December 1, 2008
Ambassador Wayne and the President of Equidad Foundation, Maria Eugenia Estenssoro, inaugurated a computer center at the Complementary Educational Center No. 8 in La Cava, San Isidro, on December 1. Also present at the ceremony was San Isidro District Head Inspector Marisel Feijo. All the authorities, together with the public, enjoyed the songs played by the kids under the supervision of music professor Cesar Castillo.
“I congratulate Silvia Ciccociopo, Principal of Complementary Educational Center No. 8, her staff and Mrs. Josefina Chávez, Director of NGO ACEJ, for the nice work they are doing in La Cava. The donation of 10 recycled PCs by Fundación Equidad and the Embassy´s support to connect them into a network is an example of joint cooperation between the different institutions in favor of youth´s education. Furthermore, each of the computers has an original Microsoft Argentina license. Microsoft donated 1500 licenses in 2007, when the company started supporting the Recycling Program of the Fundación Equidad," Ambassador Wayne said.
The Embassy also donated two higher capacity and quality PCs to run graphic software for ACEJ’s headquarters, where kids attend communication, journalism and comics workshops.
Not only the students of the Educational Center will be benefited, but the youth who participate in the workshops organized by the Asociación Civil Empleo Joven (ACEJ). ACEJ and the Educational Center have an agreement whereby ACEJ uses the Center’s facilities on Saturdays and offers workshops to more than 80 neighbor kids and youths, ages 3 a 25. They offer workshops on painting, sports, journalism and communication for adolescents.
Fundación Equidad’s Recycle Program gives schools, libraries and social organizations access to reconditioned equipment and software. The project reaches out to underserved communities and provides recycled PCs donated by companies to other nonprofit organizations, which, in turn, use them for IT skills training. It also offers training in computer fixing and computer networks.
The Asociación Civil Empleo Joven works for the the inclusion of underprivileged youths in the area of La Cava, San Isidro. ACEJ promotes workshops and activities with the participation of the community which benefit approximate 120 kids and youths, 4 to 25 years old.
