Ambassador Vilma Martinez with Monsignor Casaretto

Ambassador Vilma Martinez met on March 16 with the President of the Office of Social Work of the Roman Catholic Church, Monsignor Casaretto, to discuss the efforts of the Church to address social concerns.

"The ability of the Church to unite people towards a common goal, be it fighting drug addiction or promoting the social inclusion of marginalized communities, is a unique gift and important asset," said Ambassador Martinez.

The Ambassador and Monsignor discussed their mutual interest in fighting drug trafficking and addressing drug addiction, particularly among young people. They also talked about the Church's social inclusion programs and ability to mobilize volunteers, primarily through Cáritas. "The Church's process of teaching people to fish rather than simply handing them fish helps to build the necessary foundations for personal empowerment and development," said Ambassador Martinez.
