February 18, 2009
U.S. Charge D´Affairs, Tom Kelly, with World Sales Vice President “Carnival Cruise Line”, Joni Rein
“Travel and tourism between Argentina and the United States continues to be strong. Many Americans are able to visit Argentina for the first time thanks to companies like Carnival and Oremar,” Charge de Affairs Tom Kelly explained during his visit to the Carnival Splendor on February 18, 2009 to celebrate the first visit of the ship to Buenos Aires.
“Travel and tourism allow us to know and share our great countries and cultures, and it is good business.” added Mr. Kelly. According to the Subsecretaría de Turismo de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires, during the last six cruise seasons (2001-2007), more cruise passengers came from the United States than from any other country. Over 75 percent of the cruise passengers coming to Argentina are visiting the country for the first time. And foreign cruise passengers spend an average of AR$661 per day while here, with the cruise industry generated a gross income for Argentina of AR$ 107.000.000 during the 2006-2007 season.
