THE EMBASSY SPONSORS THE PARTICIPATION OF A YOUNG STUDENT TO THE 5TH SUMMIT OF THE AMERICAS

Mariano Carmona, from San Juan, has been chosen as part of a youth delegation from Latin America that will attend the Youth Forum taking place during the Fifth Summit of the Americas in Trinidad and Tobago on April 14-19, 2009. Mariano has received this invitation because he was a participant in the Youth Ambassadors Program in 2008, which is sponsored by the United States Embassy and implemented by Partners of the Americas
During his visit to the U.S in Februrary 2008 along with other 11 participants, Mariano participated in different activities that included meetings with important government officials and institutions working on volunteerism, and had an enriching experience living with an American host family in Montana, attending a local high school, and sharingd his culture with other people. Since his return to Argentina, Mariano has shown a high level of leadership skills and a strong commitment toward his community by participating and organizing charitable activities.
At the Youth Forum Mariano will be able to share and discuss ideas and solutions with other youths on important topics that affect the hemisphere. The forum dialogue will be focused on reviewing the opportunities for entrepreneurship and innovation across various sectors. There will be particular focus on technology and new sources of energy. Topics for the dialogue will include: review events/activities held in 2008-2009 Summit Process; summary of reports from young people across the region; use of information technology to advance Summit priorities and to connect people and businesses; discussion on how the main Summit themes affect youth across the region; presentation of Best Practice cases from various youth organizations; expansion of creativity, innovation, and economic education to increase the Americas' competitiveness in the global economy; and investment in new sources of energy for economic self sufficiency and environmental sustainability.
Mariano's participation in the Summit of the Americas is sponsored by the U.S. Embassy in Argentina.
