Deputy Chief of Mission Thomas Kelly hosted on June 1st a selected group of 25 U.S. ROTC Cadets visiting Argentina under the “U.S. Army Cultural and Language Understanding Program.” The Cadets will receive six days of intensive Spanish language classes at the CORE Institute in Recoleta followed by language, culture and history study opportunities at various sites in and around Buenos Aires. The program also includes a 3-week visit to Buenos Aires, Misiones y Jujuy.

“These Cadets are true goodwill ambassadors. Through their knowledge of Spanish and community work these Cadets establish ties of friendship and understanding among our peoples and contribute to further strengthen the relation between Argentina and the United States,” said Deputy Chief of Mission Kelly.

The event is an opportunity for these top 25 language and social science Cadet students (out of over 4,000) in grades and leadership coming from 24 universities around the United States. They, along with similar groups of Cadets visiting Panama, Senegal, Morocco, Egypt and Slovakia have the potential to become the building blocks of an entire year group generation of Army Foreign Area Officers.

Besides the intensive Spanish language training, the Cadets will work with an NGO (Acción Solidaria) in the Tigre River Delta area, making improvements on an elementary school.
