State Department Officials Visit Argentina and Meet President Kirchner

Under-Secretary of State Nicholas Burns greets President Kirchner

Under-Secretary of State Nicholas Burns and Assistant Secretary Thomas Shannon visited Argentina on February 8-9.

During their stay in Buenos Aires, the officials met with President Néstor Kirchner and held meetings with senior members of the Argentine Cabinet, among them Cabinet Chief Alberto Fernández, Foreign Minister Jorge Taiana, Planning Minister Julio De Vido and Economy Minister Felisa Miceli.

Burns also delivered a speech at the Argentine Foreign Policy Council (CARI), where he talked about U.S. policy in the Western Hemisphere, and laid a wreath at the headquarters of the AMIA Jewish community centre, which was bombed by terrorists in July 1994.
