AMBASSADOR WAYNE RECEIVES CITY OF LA PLATA MAJOR PABLO BRUERA
December 15, 2008
Ambassador Wayne received on December 15 La Plata Major Pablo Bruera and Executive Secretary of Fundación Pro Humanae Vitae Rafael Velazquez to follow up on the meeting held in April when Ambassador Wayne visited the city of La Plata.
Major Bruera talked about the work to position La Plata as “city of knowledge”, reinstating its traditional place as Argentina’s burgeoning cultural center. As Executive Secretary of Fundación Pro Humanae Vitae, Rafael Velazquez has worked closely with the Embassy supporting and developing more than 36 U.S. speaker programs. Velazquez said he would like to continue to strengthen and expand further the cooperation among the U.S. Embassy, his foundation and the city of La Plata.
Major Bruera shared the important news about the U.S. software company Accenture opening offices in La Plata and creating 400 jobs. He also talked about the creation of a technological pole in the district and the many ongoing initiatives that bring U.S. culture to the people of La Plata. Major Bruera made special reference to how the recent implementation of ICANA programs through the Catholic University of La Plata and the bigger presence of the Fulbright Commission in the city will become part of the technological pole development. The Ambassador and the Major also talked about other commercial and cultural matters.
Ambassador Wayne was pleased with the permanent cooperation between the Foundation and the Embassy and the vital support by Major Bruera, and encouraged further talks to explore new areas of cooperation.
“I would like to congratulate Major Bruera for his strategic initiative to reposition the City of La Plata as ‘city of knowledge’, with a technological pole. I am sure we will continue to expand our cooperation with this aim. I am proud to see how permanent cooperation during seven years between the Embassy and Fundación Pro Humanae Vitae has resulted in so many successful cultural programs in the city of La Plata,” said the Ambassador.
