Ambassador Vilma Martinez met on March 8 with the President of Cáritas Argentina, Monsignor Bargalló, to discuss the community works undertaken by the organization. The roots of Cáritas International come from Germany in 1885. Cáritas was established as an international organization in 1947, in response to social needs following the Second World War. Cáritas Argentina has helped millions of Argentines since its creation in 1956, and forms an important part in the network of social and economic assistance provided by Argentine civil society. The Ambassador congratulated the President of Cáritas for his community service and the capacity of the institution to mobilize so many volunteers in service to their communities. "Cáritas's methodology of training, teaching, and working alongside the program beneficiaries, instead of only giving them support, forms 'footprints of hope' for the continuation and replication of such programs in the future," said Ambassador Martinez.
"With more than 32,000 volunteers working with the most marginalized communities, Cáritas Argentina plays an admirable and invaluable role in the Argentine community," said Ambassador Martinez.
