Ambassador Martinez Meets With Minister of Science and Technology

Ambassador Vilma Martinez met with the Minister of Science and Technology Lino Barañao on November 19th to discuss bilateral cooperation regarding science and technology between Argentina and the United States. Ambassador Martinez said that the amount of scientific exchanges between the two countries is impressive and mutually beneficial.

“Minister Barañao and I agree that given the excellent quality of Argentine researchers, we can explore other possibilities for joint research and generate new job opportunities,” said the Ambassador at the end of the meeting.

In a ceremony after their meeting, Ambassador congratulated the Minister for the research agreement reached between the U.S. National Cancer Institute and the Ministry of Science and Technology of Argentina. At the ceremony, and in front of representatives of major research centers, Minister Barañao signed the agreement on behalf of the Government of Argentina.

The National Cancer Institute now has bilateral agreements with the governments of Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Uruguay, and Chile to promote breast cancer research. The United States and Latin America Cancer Research Network (US-LACRN) tries to develop a better understanding of breast cancer in Hispanic populations of Latin America and the United States, to promote cancer research, and improve the infrastructure for the treatment of this disease.
