Donation of Books and Videos to Casi Nuevo and BABS

The Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy visited and donated a large number of books, videos, and school material in English and Spanish to Casi Nuevo and BABS on August 12.

Casi Nuevo (‘Nearly New’) is a second-hand charity store located in Acassuso, Province of Buenos Aires.  Casi Nuevo sells books, small household items and clothes and is run by volunteers with the aim of providing financial support to the BABS home for the elderly in Villa Devoto.

BABS (British and American Benevolent Society) is a home for the elderly in Villa Devoto, Capital Federal. It was founded in 1880 by the British Charge D'Affairs and a "United States Minister" (member of the U.S. diplomatic corps) to meet the needs of the elderly. The mission of the society has continued throughout the years and continues to care today for approximately 90 elderly men and women from the British and the American communities.
