June 3, 2009
Ambassador Wayne received on June 3 a recognition plaque from Fundación El Libro for the creative booth design presented by the U.S. Embassy this year at the 35th International Book Fair held at the Rural Society on April and for the enthusiastic participation of the Embassy during the Fair as shown by the many activities organized. The award ceremony was held at the Ambassador’s residence during a farewell reception in his honor as he prepares to leave Argentina.
"It has been a great pleasure for me to receive this award to the creative design of our booth at the 35th International Book Fair on behalf of the Embassy. I congratulate the talented architects who made it -- true examples of Argentine creativity and ingeniousness,” said Ambassador Wayne.
The award was presented to the Ambassador by the President of Fundación El Libro, Horacio García. Also present at the event were the Vice-President of the Foundation, Carlos Pazos and architects Pablo Navone and Darío Rodríguez, responsible for designing and making the booth.
This year, the Embassy booth was dedicated to the relationship between literature and film in the United States. Novels turned into films like “Brockeback Mountain”, one of the stories of celebrated writer Annie Proulx, were exhibited as well as film critics, film adaptation and children´s books. Image and words blended in the projection of shorts of films base on literary works.
The great American writer Edgar Allan Poe was also honored at the booth on the bicentennial of his birth.
