SENIOR U.S. FEDERAL AVIATION ADMINISTRATOR OFFICIALS DEEPEN TIES WITH ARGENTINE COUNTERPARTS

Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Assistant Administrator for International Aviation James Filippatos and Western Hemisphere Office Director Cecilia Capestany completed a productive official visit on August 13, continuing discussions with senior Government of Argentina aviation officials to advanced our mutual interest in maintaining a strong civil aviation system throughout the Western Hemisphere.
The FAA officials met with Secretary of Transportation Ricardo Jaime, Under Secretary for Commercial Air Transport Ricardo Cirielli, and Air Regions Command Brigadier José Antonio Alvarez. The FAA team also met with representatives of U.S. carriers operating in Argentina.
Discussions focused on Argentina’s transition of civil aviation authority from military to civilian control, the extension of the FAA's technical cooperation program with the Air Regions Command, and the upcoming September 2007 International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) General Assembly meeting in Montreal.
Upon his departure, Assistant Administrator Filippatos said “the FAA has a strong and longstanding relationship with our aviation partners in Argentina and we appreciated this opportunity to discuss ways to continue to work together to advance our shared objective of the continued safety and efficiency of the Western Hemisphere’s air transport system.”
