Argentina and the U.S. have “a bright future ahead” of mutual cooperation in Science and Technology, said George Atkinson, the adviser to the Secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice.
Dr. Atkinson was in Buenos Aires as the head of a science delegation touring four Latin American countries in order to strengthen cooperation. On Wednesday, November 8, Mr. Atkinson spoke to journalists at the U.S. Embassy and said that he was “impressed” with the high-level of enthusiasm he found in both the Argentine government and the local science community regarding the country’s potential in the field of science and technology. “We are here to find out what Argentina’s interests are in order to find points of contact,” Atkinson said.
He added the U.S. wishes to see increased cooperation with the region: “The U.S. has always believed that Latin America is a critical part of its future”, said Dr. Atkinson. He also mentioned energy, public health, quantum technology and climate studies as some of the areas the U.S. is most interested in developing.
