At the American Club of Buenos Aires on July 7, Chargé d’ affairs Thomas P. Kelly addressed a gathering of Americans and Argentines who came together to commemorate the Independence of the United States and Argentina. The event was sponsored by The American Club of Buenos Aires, The American Women’s Club, The American Society of the River Plate and Dialogo Argentino Americano—four organizations described  by the Chargé as “the cornerstone of the American community in Argentina and of the bilateral relationship between Argentina and the United States.”

In his speech, Chargé Thomas Kelly highlighted the similarities between the birth of the United States and Argentina, underlining that the ideals of liberty and democracy inspired the forefathers of both nations.  He also discussed U.S. Argentine bilateral relations, providing examples of not only the United States’ commitment to cooperate with the Argentine government, but also its commitment to reach out to the people of Argentina.  He concluded the commemorative address by urging the audience to “do their part to practice freedom,” recognizing that doing so is the best way to celebrate our nations’ independence and the courageous people responsible.
