Ambassador Martinez Farewell ceremony at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

On Tuesday, July 2, 2013, Ambassador Vilma Martínez attended a farewell ceremony hosted in her honor by the Secretary of Foreign Relations. During the ceremony, Ambassador Eduardo Zuaín presented Ambassador Martínez with the distinction of “Order of May, Grade of Grand Cross” in recognition of her nearly four years of service in Argentina. Ambassador Martínez accepted the award as a recognition of mutual appreciation and shared work of the United States and Argentina during the past four years.
In her speech, Ambassador Martínez shared the vision of President Obama to create a foreign policy based on mutual growth and shared responsibility. She highlighted the United States and Argentina’s bilateral successes, from the joint launching of the SAC-D/Aquarius satellite to the more than $2.5 million raised to support increased educational exchange between the two countries, and emphasized the two countries joint efforts in the United Nations Security Council and Organization of American States on strategic issues including nuclear non-proliferation, human rights and peacekeeping.
Guests at the ceremony included members of the Ambassadorial and Diplomatic Corps in Argentina, officials of the Argentine Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other governmental dignitaries.
