THE EMBASSY CELEBRATES AFRO-AMERICAN HISTORY MONTH

“Two centuries after the birth of Abraham Lincoln, the inauguration of our President Barack Obama is a fundamental step towards the accomplishment of Dr. Martin Luther King´s dream, deeply rooted in the American dream … that all men are born and created equal.”
With these words, Ambassador Wayne opened the celebration of Black History Month, with the participation of more than one hundred individuals, including Afro-Argentines and imigrants, academics, civic leaders, and local members of the Afro-American community.
At the Embassy gardens, the colorful afternoon combined delicious food and cultural festivities that included Afro-Argentine singer Fidel Nadal presenting his new work - “International Love”. Following the program, the group participated in a videoconference featuring renowned expert Sheila S. Walker, Doctor in Anthropology from the University of Chicago, who spoke on the topic “President Obama and Afro-American Participation in the Américas.”
