CHARGE D’AFFAIRES THOMAS KELLY PRESIDES OVER COMMEMORATION OF U.S. ARMED FORCES DAY
June 10, 2009
Charge d’Affaires Thomas Kelly presided on June 10 over the celebration of fifty nine years since Armed Forces Day was created in the United States, with a ceremony and reception at the residence of the U.S. Ambassador. U.S. and Argentine military men, colleagues and friends were present at the event.
Quoting President Obama, Mr. Kelly recognized: “not only the service of our armed forces but also the importance of people’s understanding of the role of the armed forces in a democracy,” and highlighted the role of the military by adding: “The Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines, Coastguardsmen and those who have answered the national call, protect the country and its values, preserve democracy and deserve our recognition and gratitude.”
Incoming Defense Attaché Col. Mark G. Allcot was also introduced during this ceremony.
“Today, the United States military serves across the world to keep us safe. They are working at home to protect America from threats foreign and domestic; they are risking their lives in other parts of the world to ensure our security and provide humanitarian assistance. Members of the Armed Forces are forging a better future for our Nation and the world.” – concluded Mr. Kelly.
