9-11 COMMEMORATION AT ICANA
Spetmeber 9, 2010
On September 9, the Argentine American Cultural Institute and the Embassy organized an event to commemorate the 9th anniversary of the terrorist attacks of September 11.
With the presence of a diverse audience, after the introductory remarks by ICANA president María Teresa Carballo and Cultural Director Ines Etchebarne, the Embassy Cultural Attaché, John Finn, shared his experience of being in Washington, D.C. when the events occurred. Then, three alumni who were in New York doing their Fulbright programs recounted their experience. Thanks to Skype, alumnus Javier Arano, who is now living in Ecuador, described how he lived the events. Ernesto Schafran, who was doing a Masters program in Law at Columbia University, spoke on how the general mood of New York City was affected by what had happened. Finally, there was a video shown of architect Pablo Lorenzo Eiroa, who now lives in New York and had visited the twin towers on September 10, 2001. He was involved in coordinating the team of Peter Eisenman architects who became finalists in the 2002 World Trade Center site design competition.
In addition to the presentation of Fulbright grantees, two Argentine artists contributed with their art works. Veronica Caminos, an Argentine artist who was flying from NY to LA at the time of the crash, and Malena Gainza, an Argentine artist who converted into artwork her feelings about terrorism.
