AMBASSADOR MARTINEZ REMARKS AT THE 2010 YOUTH AMBASSADORS PROGRAM PRESS CONFERENCE
October 20, 2009

Good afternoon and thank you for coming.  Today I have the great pleasure to announce the launching of the 4th edition of the Youth Ambassadors Program.  The Youth Ambassadors Program is an initiative of the US Embassy in Argentina with the collaboration of the Fulbright Commission in Argentina and the American organization Partners of the Americas.

The Youth Ambassadors Program is designed to send public high school students from all over Argentina to the U.S. in a three week program, to learn about U.S. society and culture and to share Argentina’s culture with people in the United States. In the past three years, over 1000 students have sent their application to participate in the program, and with an investment of over 240,000 US Dollars, the Embassy has been able to send 27 students from 17 provinces.

This year, the embassy will select 12 students who will travel in two groups.  The first group will travel in February and the second one in September of 2010.  At their first destination, the city of Washington, DC, the delegation will meet with other participants from Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay.

After their visit to Washington, DC, where they will meet with high ranking government officials and tour cultural and historical sites, the Youth Ambassadors will travel to the state of Montana for two weeks, where they will live with a host family, attend classes and participate in cultural and sports events.

Any student interested in applying for this exciting opportunity of personal growth and learning about other culture, should visit our website and follow the instructions that are stated there.

To close, I would like to share with you a video prepared by the youth ambassadors who traveled in 2009 that shows the highlights of the trip and transmits the enthusiasm and impact that this program creates among its participants.

Now, we will be happy to answer your questions about the Youth Ambassadors Program 2010.
